Gone 01:48
My old man's gun blew my dear one clean away dead and gone I had two loves Now i have none Love is gone solid gone i'm out of drugs and i'm all out of wine No more tears Nothin left to pine for No more loose ends None of my old friends come around any more There ain't no trains runnin down the track They've all gone to rust and they ain't comin back Time's goin fast The future like my past will soon be long dead and gone

I was born in a tar paper shack He'd come around, say "your daddy's back I'm your long gone daddy!" Long gone daddy No one's daddy now Decked out in her calico best She'd do the dog, then bring on the rest for her long gone daddy Gone wrong daddy No one's daddy now Light me up now, smoke my cigar Now that's pushin it a little too far My little long gone daddy I'm head strong, daddy You're no one's daddy now Awakened from her slumber He tried to take her sense of wonder And so the dawn has blown him away now The color's gone from pink to grey now A powder puff to a powder burn This time he's off never to return He's a long gone daddy Stone cold daddy No one's daddy now...

Comin' Down 03:38
Rain, hail, trouble Comin down Sun, moon, sky Comin down All around it's falling stars and fallen men and all the little multicolored pieces of broken rainbows Space, Time, Heaven Comin down Lost like a rocket ship in Einstein's dream It's all relative so that must mean I'm risin Life's too short to hold onto and dyin's no crime I only wish i'd told you one more time I love you
4.
Jenga 03:32
A wooden tower eighteen stories to start off You'd think it would be high enough but we're never satisfied always one more piece to try A wish upon a star a star upon a tree gazing upon you you upon me i've never been on top or won any prize i don't believe in war but i'm always down for One more game of Jenga set it up Build the tower weak and high pull a piece out from way down take a deep breath heave a sigh Pile it on all night long Pile it on all night long Steady now It's your try one false move and all the pieces fly A wish upon a star a star upon a tree a once upon a time a banjo on my knee a new love is born deaf, dumb, and blind a heaven to explore guess i've got time for One more game of Jenga set it up Build the tower weak and high another story could bring it down but take a deep breath heave a sigh Pile it on all night long Pile it on all night long... A wooden tower eighteen stories to start off You'd think it would be high enough but we're never satisfied always one more tear to cry

Hawaii 04:32
As i walked by the Sunshine drug store There was some guy outside the front door sayin i could win a trip for two a taste of somethin new Hawaii I heard a sound it felt like thunder i gave the man my name and number Said, "set me up down on some distant shore i've never seen before" Hawaii Rain fell all day, now night is fallin From far away I hear it callin Is it my fate to come upon by chance this thing they call romance? Late night thoughts, mine just bore me Popcorn salt, an old lover story I drifted off to channel 42 Elvis in Blue Hawaii Circling in the dark i scoped her shoreline No place to park a ship big as mine I hit a rock and black gold flowed like love upon the beaches of Hawaii Hawaii

I won't give you up simply because they say you're on the other side So don't let them take the smile i adore Try to have faith our love will carry on I heard a tale from many year ago The story goes like this: Once upon a time, beyond the stars there was a boy and a girl who were blessed to find a love like ours and though they faced a wall of pain they're still together on the other side Maybe someday, somewhere far away Maybe a thousand years from now Two lovers like us will look at the sky And one will speak of our legendary love and tell a tale from many years ago and say it goes like this: Once upon a time, beyond the stars there was a boy and a girl who were blessed to find a love like ours and though they faced a wall of pain they're still together on the other side The other side...

Ride the lift to the seventh floor Check your lipstick and your heart at the door Bring your prize rose, your dyin' dove Gravestone eyes and your baby love Raise your arms now, swing 'em wide Praise the saints who come inside Say grace now, say your prayers Hear them footsteps comin up the stairs Baby can't you hear your mama call You never write your number down When you work this part of town You can hum if you can't sing Daddy's gonna buy you a leather, studded ring Baby can't you hear your mama call Down a slug of Mad Dog sugar to numb yourself and ease your mind and when you whack Jack gigolo win another ticket to the fire An old black shawl and a fractured hip Tear-drenched eyes and trembling lower lip Broken heart cryin' out for thee Clenched hands frozen to a rosary Baby can't you hear your mama call In an old black shawl Down a slug of Mad Dog sugar to numb yourself and ease your mind and when you whack Jack gigolo win another ticket to the fire Ride the lift to the seventh floor Check your lipstick and your heart at the door Bring your prize rose, your dyin' dove Gravestone eyes and your baby love Gravestone eyes and your baby love.

They crawls up in my bed They crawls under the sheets They crawls right up in my head When I am trying to sleep They gets under my nails They gets under my skin They’s kickin down the doors of my mind Screamin, “let me in!” They can’t be real They can be there This is what I tell myself But it see they everywhere What is they? What is that thing? What is they - the they that drives me crazy the they of which I sing? They could be a he or she Or you or someone else All I know is they is something Other than myself I don’t know what they’s up to But you know what they say I try not to listen But I hear they anyway Id be fine if only They’d be mindin they’s own biz Why should I care they says When I don’t what they is? What is they? What is that thing? What is they - the they that drives me crazy the they of which I sing? They, its they I say They’s a cryin shame They, it’s they I say They’s the one to blame What is they? They’s the cross I carry What is that thing? You may think I’m a clown What is they? In my vocabulary They’s a singular noun

Baby Doll 04:29
Yesterday when all this started We were so high strung I don't feel much older now but how'd you get so young? You got me in a maelstrom darlin Feel like i been stung Can't control my thoughts now baby Let alone my tongue Baby Doll, oh Baby Doll May i call you Baby Doll? You're the yellow sun that's got me crazy from your rays Every time you rise you make my rooster crow for days Love it when you break me darlin laughin all the while Sacrifice my angst upon the altar of your smile Baby Doll, oh baby doll may i call you Baby Doll? I just wanna feel your secrets Sizzlin in my ear I just wanna smell the future When i hold you near I just wanna make your cute car Spin out of control I just wanna probe you down into your very soul Baby Doll, oh baby Doll May i call you Baby Doll? Baby Doll, oh baby doll May i call you Baby Doll?

Comedy 02:55
Fields of Blue Skies of green Velvet gloves and gasoline Tell me fate What are you made of? Silver bells and shotgun shells and pretty maids who kiss and... Tell me faith, Have you betrayed us? The comedy i create Will it all end in hate Or love? Wedding plans and invitations and premature Congratulations Don't have to say what i'm afraid of The comedy i create Will it all end in hate Or love?

about

This was my 2nd project with producer John Parish (PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse, Giant Sand...) on the German label, Ulftone. Featuring the notorious Inchtabokatables string quartet on half of the songs, the 2001 release was "CD only" and never released on the internet in its complete form (the ending track was missing) or the U.S. in ANY form until now. This remastered 20th Anniversay Edition (yes, it's been 20 years!) is now available for a limited time only on Bandcamp as a "pay optional" free download. I'll press vinyl if enough people express interest. <3
